Topulli house (Area)

This house was built by Mehmet Topulli, on top of a hill. His grandson, the outstanding patriot Çerçiz Topulli, was born in the fall of 1890, in this big house. Çerçiz Topulli is often considered a national hero. He fought valiantly against Ottoman rule at the beginning of the 20th century. One of the most important moments of his patriotic activity is the killing of the Turkish bimbash of Gjirokastra (Ottoman title for leaders of units with 1000 soldiers) in 1908. After the Declaration of Independence pn 1912, Çerçiz Topulli and his armed men fought for the defense of Albania's new territory. He was killed in Shkodra while fighting against the Montenegro troops.
